Make activity in one window sufficient for preventing logout

Currently, if I open my application in two different windows, then if one window gets logged out for inactivity, the other (active window) gets logged out as well (though it happens “behind-the-scenes”, so I don’t realize I’m logged out until I try to do a network request and it fails). It seems like this might be intended behavior, but it produces the experience that the application suddenly stops working, so I am wondering if there any easy way to prevent this from happening.

Alternatively, if there is a way to restrict it to one application instance per user (when you log-in to a new instance, force log-out the old instance) this might also work.
